FREE Family Planning Services

Northland Family Planning Clinics are proud to be a certified provider of Michigan’s PLAN FIRST! Program, established in 2006 to cover the expense of family planning and birth control services to Michigan women who meet certain eligibility requirements. Not only do we provide the best medical care possible, we also create an environment where you are treated with compassion, dignity and respect. It is estimated that at least 200,000 women may meet this criteria!

Go to www.michigan.gov/mdch to review the forms and see if you qualify for coverage.

To qualify, the State of Michigan requires you meet ALL of the following conditions:

  • Woman, 19 – 44 years of age.
  • U.S. citizen or acceptable resident alien status.
  • Have a SSN or proof of having applied for one.
  • Live in Michigan.
  • If you already have insurance, it does NOT cover family planning services.
  • Not Medicaid eligible.
  • Not currently pregnant.
  • Income less than 185% of the federal poverty level.

Examples: Your income in the month of application is at or less than:

  • For a single woman $1510 (about $377 wk.)
  • For family of 2 $2,035
  • For family of 3 $2560
  • For family of 5 $3,608

Your application will address all of this in detail. If you need help filling out your application, there is help available at your local Health Department.

What is covered?
Comprehensive Reproductive Health Care including:

  • Office visits for family planning related services.
  • Contraceptives including a full range of methods, including Pills, the Patch and more!
  • PLUS! Contraceptive supplies and devices, including IUDs, Implants and Depo-Provera (the Shot).
  • PLUS! Lab testing and medications related to contraceptive management.
  • PLUS! Diagnosis & First treatment of STIs.
  • Sterilizations for women over age 21.
If you qualify for Plan First, you probably also qualify for Merck’s Patient Assistance Program that will cover the cost of the HPV vaccine.
NOTE: Abortion and infertility treatments are NOT covered under this program.
