FREE! Family Planning Services
Family planning helps you decide when to have a baby. This helps you and your babies stay healthy.
Family planning is much more than just birth control. Family planning includes screening services that help find serious health problems, such as low blood iron, high blood pressure, and infections sooner.
Beginning July 1, 2006, Michigan will provide family planning services to Michigan citizens meeting certain eligibility requirements. This program is approved for the next five years. Family planning services will now be available to women who otherwise would not have medical coverage for these services.
It is estimated that at least 200,000 women may meet this criteria! See if you are covered.

We are proud to be a certified provider of Michigan's PLAN FIRST! Program.
We believe the world is a better place when women have the freedom to make their own decisions regarding their bodies, reproductive options and sexuality.
Not only do we provide the best medical care possible, we also create an environment where you are treated with compassion, dignity and respect. We are always available for questions, concerns and support.
Who qualifies?
If you meet ALL the following conditions, you qualify.
- Woman, 19 – 44 years of age
- U.S. citizen or acceptable resident alien status
- Have a SSN or proof of having applied for one
- Live in Michigan
- If you already have insurance, it does NOT cover family planning services.
- Not Medicaid eligible
- Not currently pregnant
- Income less than 185% of the federal poverty level
Examples: Your income in the month of application is at or less than:
A1 For a single woman $1510 (about $377 wk.)
A1 For family of 2 $2,035
A1 For family of 3 $2560
A1 For family of 5 $3,608
Your application will address all of this in detail. If you need help filling out your application, there is help available at your local Health Department.
What is covered?
Comprehensive Reproductive Health Care including:
- Office visits for family planning related services
- Contraceptives including a full range of methods, including Pills, the Patch and more!
- PLUS! Contraceptive supplies and devices, including IUDs, Implants and Depo (the Shot)
- PLUS! Lab testing and medications related to contraceptive management
- PLUS! Diagnosis & First treatment of STIs
- Sterilizations for women over age 21
NOTE: Abortion and infertility are NOT covered under this program.
